Charter of Thierry of Flanders, 1157

Year

1157

Summary

Shortly before departing on his third journey to Jerusalem, Thierry of Flanders grants in alms lands transferred by Peter of Frévillers to the abbey of Looks. The lands, about four and a half modi of fields and woodland, were given partly in alms, partly as a sale, from his fief which he held from Eustace of Louez. Later, Roger of Aubigni-en-Artois and his wife Elizabeth also made a grant of land from the same fief and about four acres of allodial land, with the option to acquire the surrounding lands, presently held by villeins. When all of this had been explained to Thierry where he was at Arras, he happily confirmed it with his seal.

Text
