Charter of Philip of Flanders, 1176

Year

1176

Summary

As he is departing for the Holy Sepulchre, Philip, by the grace of God count of Flanders and Vermandois, makes it known that he has given a pond to the Cistercian monks of the abbey church of the Blessed Mary of Loos, yielding a value of 50 shillings annually, in alms. He does so on the condition that the monks should observe the day of his anniversary in the chapter of the church and that the abbot should distribute the 50 shillings as a general pittance to the whole community.
