Eindridi the Young

Expedition Date/s

1151, 1153

Biography

According to Orkneyinga Saga, Eindridi was a chieftain of Norway who had spent some time working as a mercenary in Constantinople, perhaps as a member of the Varangian guard. Upon his return north, he was instrumental in persuading Earl Rognvald to journey to Jerusalem, and accompanied him as a guide. Eindridi remained in Constantinople after Earl Rognvald and his companions returned home, going back to Norway only after several years. There he sided against Erling Wry-neck (one of his former associates on the Jerusalem expedition), in a bid to set Hakon the Broad-Shouldered on the throne, and was defeated and later executed by Erling in Oslo.
