Biography
Andrew II of Vitré was lord of a strategically important castle lordship on the frontiers between Anjou and Brittany, and occupied an important place in the politics of the region during the period of Angevin domination. Andrew's expedition is known from the testamentary document that he drew up before joining an army in the relief of Kerak during an incursion into the kingdom by Saladin. Andrew survived this expedition and returned to rule until 1210, when he died on the point of his departure for the Albigensian crusade.
