Biography

Count Fernando Pérez rose to be one of the most powerful princes in the western Iberian peninsula, with lands and titles in the kingdom of Léon, Galicia, and exercising power in Portugal. He participated in military expeditions against Muslim powers in Iberia, including at the conquest of Almería. He undertook two expeditions to Jerusalem after the Second Crusade.
