Biography
Henry II of Grandpré was count of Grandpré in the Ardennes, between the political powers of the county of Champagne and and the principalities of the Low Countries. He was the son of Henry I of Grandpré and Beatrix of Joinville, a powerful Champenois family with strong connections to crusading.Henry and his brother Geoffrey were present at Château-Thierry in 1178 together with Count Henry the Liberal of Champagne, by which time they had probably already all taken the cross to travel together to Jerusalem. Henry II's son, Henry III died on the Albigensian crusade.
