Biography

Stephen II was the son of William III of Mâcon, who had undertaken his own independent crusade in 1156. He was married to the niece of the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Stephen's departure on crusade was marked by a number of donations to the Cistercian order in Burgundy.
