Biography

Geoffrey Martel was the younger son of Vulgrin II, count of Angoulême and brother of Count William VI of Angoulême. He made his journey to the East in 1163 in the company of Hugh VIII of Lusignan. The two took part in two battles against the forces of Nur ad-Din. While the first, at La Boquée, was successful, the second battle at Harim in 1164 was a defeat for the Latin forces. If is not known if Geoffrey Martel of Angoulême survived this battle or was taken prisoner and died later like his companion Hugh VIII of Lusignan.
